Martyn Layzell is the worship pastor at St Aldate’s, a vibrant Anglican student church at the heart of Oxford, UK where he lives with his wife Emily and three boys, Jack, Harry & Jesse.
Formerly of the Soul Survivor movement, Martyn has worked closely with Mike Pilavachi, Matt Redman & Tim Hughes and has led worship at many Soul Survivor events globally, including Australia, Norway, Finland, North America, Malaysia, South Africa and Northern Ireland as well as the UK Summer Festivals.
In 1999 Martyn recorded a joint album with Tim Hughes, 'Reward', and has appeared on several of the live Soul Survivor recordings.
'Lost in Wonder' is Martyn's highly acclaimed first solo project (released May 2003) and features excellent studio versions of Martyn's songs, many of them used at Soul Survivor. The album includes ‘With all my heart’, 'Praise You', 'When Words are not Enough' & 'Sovereign Lord', as well as the popular 'Lost in Wonder', which has also been featured on many other recordings to date and is being sung in churches all over the world.
Since his involvement with Soul Survivor, Martyn has led worship at many UK based conferences including Spring Harvest, New Wine & Clan Gathering in Scotland and has also contributed to the Soul Survivor, New Wine & Spring Harvest live recordings with songs such as Sovereign Lord, Praise You and Lost in Wonder.
His second solo studio album “Turn my face” released in the summer of 2006 and features new songs such as “I stand in awe”, “Turn my face again”, “If ever I should falter” and “Join the song”.
This album like “Lost in wonder” was produced by Mike Busbee, who mixed Matt Redman's 'Where Angels Fear to Tread', and was recorded and mixed in Los Angeles CA.
Martyn has a passion to renew worship in the local church and to see the mission of Jesus outworked from a heart of worship.
